Tension manufactures billions of envelopes annually and their envelope and printed products division serve a variety of industries, including third-party billing, financial, insurance and direct marketing.
In 1996, Tension expanded its global reach with the formal introduction of Tension Asia. This pivotal move led to the establishment of two subsidiaries: Tension Envelope Taiwan Corporation in Taiwan in 1996 and Tension Envelope Shaoxing Corporation in Shaoxing in 2002. Specializing in a wide array of envelopes, including lens, international standards, bill envelopes, direct mail advertising, business, kraft paper, red envelopes, CD/DVD paper, and photo envelopes, Tension Asia offers a comprehensive one-stop solution encompassing creative development, manufacturing, and international sales. Equipped with 15 advanced production lines and stringent quality control measures, our facilities ensure that each envelope meets consistent standards of excellence.
To align with consumers' environmental consciousness, penetrate the global high-end market, and solidify our eco-friendly corporate identity, Tension Asia obtained FSC forest environmental protection certification in 2011. This certification underscores our commitment to delivering traceable, environmentally responsible paper products to our users. In response to evolving customer demands, we've recently diversified our packaging portfolio, expanding into office supplies, express materials, gift packaging, and other rapidly developing sectors. The company named Tension Envelope Co., is based on an invention in the Envelope world that uses a single body and two buttons to easily seal and reuse envelopes. The invention is called Tension Envelope.
Walter Berkowitz, son of William Berkowitz, discovers a new, high-speed envelope-folding machine. Berkley Machinery Company was later established and Tension becomes the sole supplier of W&D machinery in the United States. The machine’s introduction revolutionizes the American envelope industry.
Building on the popularity of the Tension Tie envelope, the Company consolidates all manufacturing and sales divisions and officially becomes Tension Envelope Corporation.
Began to set up branches and distribution systems throughout the United States, and acquired other envelope manufacturers
Bert Berkley, grandson of E.B. Berkowitz, takes the helm at Tension.

Tension Shaoxing moved to a new plant due to its performance and production expansion
In March of 2019, Tension Corporation and Motion Envelope, Inc. announced that they had entered into an agreement under which Tension would acquire Motion Envelope. The two companies had worked together for several years prior to the acquisition, making Motion Envelope a natural fit. Acquiring Motion Envelope opened up several new opportunities for specialty products for Tension customers.
In October of 2021, Tension Packaging & Automation announced the acquisition of Colorado Automation & Design (CAD) to help meet growing demand to their core markets of eCommerce and pharmacy automation.
In March of 2022, Tension announced the acquisition of the print division assets of Intellus Direct. This acquisition expands Tension’s presence in the high-end direct mail and print marketing space while consolidating its supply chain by vertically integrating the print and envelope converting operations that support Tension’s direct mail and print marketing offerings.
